ACCPI History

The Association of Integrative Research, Counseling and Psychotherapy was founded in 2011 by Oana Maria Popescu (president), Loredana Ileana Viscu and Silvia Georgiana Gane (vice presidents). We started with a training group in integrative psychotherapy in Timisoara – a small group of 8 people … but in 2017 we had 17 integrative psychotherapy groups in Timisoara, Bucharest, Hunedoara, Deva, Arad, Resita and Sibiu. We liked this figure: 17 groups in 2017. Also in 2017 the first training groups in child psychotherapy, clinical hypnosis and coaching began. We hope that in 2077 we will have at least 77 training groups And to boast a little: The Association of Integrative Research, Counseling and Psychotherapy is the only professional association in Romania that carries out training programs in 6 different specialties – integrative psychotherapy, child and adolescent psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and clinical hypnosis, existential psychotherapy, expressive psychotherapies and coaching, – accredited nationally and internationally. We also organize conitnuous professional development courses accredited by the College of Psychologists from Romania and the Romanian Psychotherapy Federation. In the future, we want to become a center that offers training programs in as many specialties as possible in the field of psychotherapy.

We are accredited by the College of Psychologists in Romania, the Romanian Federation of Psychotherapy, the European Association for Integrative Psychotherapy, the European Interdisciplinary Association for the Therapy of Children and Youth and undergoing accreditation by the European Coaching Federation and the European Association of Hypnotherapy. The course of the accreditation was not an easy one: in 2011 we obtained the accreditation from the Psychologists’ College of Romania, as a professional training provider for the integrative psychotherapy specialty, as well as the accreditation from the European Integrative Psychotherapy Association, with the status of “associate membership”. In 2012 the transition to the provisional membership status was made, and in 2015 we became full members of EAIP (European Association for Integrative Psychotherapy). At the beginning of 2016 we were accredited by the Romanian Federation of Psychotherapy, thus becoming a member of the EAP (European Psychotherapy Association). As a result, our students can obtain the practice licence in psychotherapy from the College of Psychologists in Romania and the certification as a psychotherapist from the Romanian Psychotherapy Federation, the European certificate of psychotherapy, as well as the international certificate in psychotherapy (World Council for Psychotherapy). In 2016, our association was accredited by the College of Psychologists in Romania for the professional training program in integrative psychotherapy of children and adolescents, the first program of such specialization in Romania, as well as by the European Interdisciplinary Association for Therapy with Children and Young People. So we persisted in developing new training programs, and at the end of 2016 ACCPI was accredited by the Romanian College of Psychologists as a professional training provider for integrative hypnotherapy and clinical hypnosis, existential psychotherapy and coaching. At the beginning of 2019 we were accredited for the expressive psychotherapies training program.

We are proud of the fact that the training in strategic integrative coaching is the only coaching training accredited by the College of Psychologists in Romania.

ACCPI Departments

The Association for Research, Counseling and Integrative Psychotherapy is organized in the following departments:

1. Training department

Training in psychotherapy that takes place over 4 or 5 years, with training modules organized monthly. In order to become a psychotherapist you need to study a theoretical and practical training program,  have an adequate level of personal development and develop a supervised clinical practice. The training in psychotherapy carried out within the Association of Integrative Research, Counseling and Psychotherapy ensures all these essential components of training for psychotherapists. Training programs in psychotherapy (called complementary training programs) include theoretical and practical training (so-called basic training), personal development and personal psychotherapy, as well as supervision of clinical practice. The training department is responsible for ensuring the training structures and the quality of the professional training.

The training department is headed by the Professional and Litigation Commission and includes:

  • integrative psychotherapy
  • child and adolescent psychotherapy
  • hypnotherapy and clinical hypnosis
  • existential psychotherapy
  • strategic integrative coaching
  • expressive psychotherapies
  • supervision program
  • training for trainers and supervisors

Chairperson of the Professional and Litigation committee: Oana Maria Popescu.

2. Research Department

Research is organized in the form of research programs. Each program has a regulation and is run by one or more program directors. The program directors organize research activity in collaboration with professionals from home and abroad, ACCPI students being involved as research assistants or researchers in these programs.

The research department is headed by the Commission for the Organization of Professional and Scientific Manifestations. The head of the commission is Loredana Ileana Viscu.

3. Department of Art Education

Psychotherapy is both an art and a science. In addition to cognitive, logical, rational skills, the psychotherapist needs to develop his/her creative and non-conformist skills in order to use both the left and right brain hemispheres when working with the client on a verbal and non-verbal level. For this reason we believe that art education of psychotherapists is of paramount importance in professional development.

Our amateur theater company presents three or four plays every year, and we organize movie nights and various art and creativity courses.

The art education department is headed by Oana Maria Popescu, in collaboration with Silviu Andrei Gusat, Flavius Furtuna and Sergiu Milos.

4. Department of Ethics and Deontology

Being a psychotherapist implies ethical clinical practice and respect for professional deontology. In order to support the psychotherapists who are members of our association, the ethics and deontology department offers consultancy regarding ethical practice. The Ethics and Ethics Department is headed by the Ethics Committee. Chairperson of the ethics and deontology committee: Silvia Georgiana Gane

5. Department of International Relations

The Association for Integrative Research, Counseling and Psychotherapy is a member of European organizations and collaborates with institutions and universities around the world. The department of international relations is headed by Loredana Ileana Viscu and Oana Maria Popescu.
